Value
There are clear and measurable outcomes from each phase in the 4D approach. All phases are designed to deliver practical outcomes, value and real benefits at each point in the process.
'These benefits are outlined below. They are direct in terms of the sessions themselves, iterative between each phase. They involve synthesis and analytics as they are compound as they are carried forward to the next stage. See Also 4D Deliverables, References
Discovery = Discovering what 'Could' we do to solve the problem

Common purpose and understanding will be the key outcome from this first workshop. At this point we will be very clear about what we need to focus our attention on.
As a result of the capture throughout the day we will have a valuable baseline that we can develop and built into our strategy. This will inform and also provide the rationale behind the business case. It will be evidence of the thought process and considerations that support subsequent decisions and actions.

Development = Developing what 'Should' we do to solve the problem.
The Line of Sight – the ability to articulate a robust strategy/plan/story which is supported by deep thinking and hard logic that will stand up to hard scrutiny. Creating the robust framework for strategy. Co-creating new and shared meaning around the future, the direction and the vision we all seek.
A framework that can be developed into a program of work – a governor that acts as a control mechanism for subsequent decisions.See Also Development Framework

Decision = Deciding what we 'Will' do as a result of the first two phases
A robust organization wide view of the key program of work and how they inter relate.
Confidence that the road-map will deliver against the strategy. Too many organizations experience the frustration of the disconnect between strategy and operation. This approach build on the work conducted at each stage and ensures total connection (line of sight) at every point.
Fundamentally this is where we choose. We can now state what we will Stay' doing. What we need to 'Start doing.' And importantly what we will 'Stop' doing as a result of the first two phases.
Reality – it isn’t possible to keep adding new initiatives without stopping some existing activities. The framework will help to make the right decisions and will ensure that business as usual is not compromised.

Deployment = Deploying what we 'Agreed we would do' to resolve the issues of the above...
The measures established in Development will support regular checkpoints for assessing progress in moving from Current Reality to the Future Vision. It will be possible to provide hard evidence of the benefits being realized and the effect that the planned changes are making.
This is about sustaining the program and keeping it alive within the wider enterprise
The work developed will provide a foundation for ongoing communications across the organization. As a result of the work undertaken there will be a coherent and consistent message that can be adapted and developed for the various stakeholders within and outside of the organization.

4D Deliverables
All phases of the approach will deliver tangible outputs that support these outcomes and which will also support ongoing communication across the organisation as well as providing a coherent record of all the significant insights, conclusions and decisions reached during the process.
All of these deliverables will be produced in line with the principles of Structured Visual Thinking.
