To do this we have always explored and pushed the limits of what technology enables us all to do. We have adopted and invested in the latest technologies and software to enable us to translate original thoughts and new meaning from the intervention phases of 4D™. We do this by creating digital, re-usable and interactive forms of them.

This translation of original objects into digital objects is what has created the SVT Business Object Library™

The idea behind Group Partners inventions – 4D™ and Structured Visual Thinking™ - is to help clients to avoid solving the wrong problems by exploring the widest possible context in teams. We do this within logic frameworks based on The Business Equations so that new understanding and therefore meaning is created. The resulting ownership ensures that any differences of opinion are overcome in critical decision making process and that sustainable change and performance is ensured.

We have been developing tools to do this over the entire history of Group Partners. Nearly 10 years now. These tools involve Training, Case Reference, Principles and Philosophy Documents, Templates and Codified Approach, Services and the SVT Live Toolkit and studio services. The 'Pixar' Of Consulting

The near future will see licensed tools and accredited users (SVT Practitioners) able to deliver the phases (and deep dives) of 4D and create their own visual storyboards through desktop applications. Critical to this accreditation will be the experience of the practitioner, training and accreditation by Group Partners and therefore skill in The Business Equations and 'The Laws' of Decision Quality.

Group Partners Technology Vision sees collaborative platforms immediately causing virtual conversations. Augmented Intelligence bringing feeds via the Web (Semantic Web). We already have pilots in Second Life and Social Media where groups with special interest and expertise can comment on modules, scenes or specific objects and their relationships with other parts of the system. The Technology Vision covers the applications via smart-phones (iPhone) embracing symbolic and icon driven transfer of knowledge and simple access to 4D and Structured Visual Thinking at Module, Scene and Object level. Further with Augmented Visual Thinking this will enable the interrogation of SVT Business Object™ level symbols.

This interrogation can be a number of things:

  • Question and conversation related
  • Status and trend illustrative
  • Implications and dependencies tracked and change of status enabled

In simple terms through training and accreditation the user can configure new meaning and alteration of the intention. This can be done at variable stages of a strategy development or transformation and change program. See the Scenario Configurator definitions below.

Shared meaning through the redefinition of ideas in co-creative exchanges will be dramatically enhanced by the onset of new and existing access to technology, software and the web. We have noticed that the ‘iPhone’ type of experience overcomes the barriers - to many - of access to consumable knowledge. The symbolic nature of the screen experiences overcomes the complexities of language and the discomfort of learning complex screen or computing knowledge. These experiences create new and common bonds amongst communities and enables wide spread of new and different meaning in countless ways.

These experiences are natural in humanity. They are akin to our ancestors ways of working. Much of this has been sadly lost to society with the rise of the focus on the purely fiscal. We can draw upon the wisdom of the Aboriginal nations, for example - they used rich drawings and narrative with no text to run affairs for 40,000 years. The skills of visual and conversational interaction and knowledge transfer need to transcend purely word and numeric levels. These two devices have outlived their domination and are proven barriers to business and societal change.

The client perspective

Senior teams often complain about the impenetrable word document, overbearing and meaningless PowerPoint discussion and needlessly overcomplicated consulting methodology. We bring open dialogue and visual expression to conversations by clean and simple visual and intelligent means. Working through a series of conversations where the client is always in control of the rate of progress - as new meaning arrives - is a very much more enjoyable and valuable experience.

As the meaning is uncovered and the physical evidence is both on the wall and in the narrative capture the progress is remarkable. Because the Business Equations™ are logic the comfort of the team is high. Because the output is visual and of high quality the sustainability and endurance of the outcome is immediately apparent.

The client gets a storyboard at each step.

The client can interact with the frameworks in a number of ways. Our technology vision is based on the client continuing to interact as a team and through whatever means is most comfortable to them. With the frameworks, the modules, the scenes and the objects in place, conversation can continue apace and remotely through collaborative software, conversation and moderator control (practitioner) and in regular re-meets as required. And in addition, because of the visual nature and the rules behind The Business Equation it becomes simpler to control remote conversation, changes and visual rework as the process of change continues.

The practitioner perspective

Imagine a brainstorm or meeting where thinking needs to take place.

To begin with just imagine that the group has been given the context of each of the frameworks. But especially the framework at hand. Also explained is the logic of the framework model that is governing the session topic. Also fully explained - the philosophy of why this is valid. For example - Greater context, the reasoning of the Business Equation and the evidence of failure in solving the wrong problems really well otherwise.

  1. Imagine now a wall with pre-prepared modules. These modules are available in a variety of themes.
  2. The wall is suitably large and spatially arranged so that it feels right.
  3. The themes (variants within each module) are as close to the general subject and desired direction as possible but not straying into the trap of anything remotely resembling a solution or an outcome.
  4. The practitioner is skilled in questioning the group against the conversations stimulated by the logic modules to the sequences of 4D™ and with the underlying logic of the Business Equations always in mind.
  5. Alongside the practitioner either directly or remotely, before, during and/or after the session our technology plays several roles. See the SVT ‘Live’ Scenario Configurator
  6. The team in the session needs little distraction. The conversations emerge and the narrative capture is far beyond verbatim or rote. This level of capture is also focused on the Business Equation™.
  7. The entire narrative is focused on meaning. Directly related to the synthesis of the wall capture but in many ways more importantly building the richer story that will support the phased feedback and summary of the step.
  8. Our tools can manipulate the data in several ways. The data captured on the wall templates will be of a legible standard and can be repopulated within the SVT ‘Live’™ Scenario Configurator.
  9. The narrative analysis and synthesis can be added to SVT ‘Live’™ - Vizmo and SVT ‘Live’™ - Animo applications to carry high level click through narratives for later playback. Autoplay, voice and video interaction is easy and built into many of these at deliverable stages.
  10. The SVT ‘Live’™ Scenario Configurator is fully able to craft entirely new or augmented scenarios. Augmented scenarios are built within the same tool and cover D1, D2 and D3 frameworks. Bespoke scenarios are infinite in their ability to tell a new story and have text, business objects, shapes, layering and color flexibility in line with Group Partners standards.
  11. Tailorable and branded libraries can be made available under license. These will allow the enterprise to call up specific objects, branded product or often required scenes, artifacts and items in popular use across the enterprise.

The SVT ‘Live’™ - Scenario Configurator in application

The aspect of all this that is now ready for release is the SVT ‘Live’™ - Scenario Configurator. This enables a trained and licensed operator to gain control over the visual development from the wall to the deliverable or the sustainability/presentation of outcomes. This means that with the appropriate training a scenario can be built directly to digital format and this can be done live, real time either as a background or foreground task.

It is a desktop tool and can be projected and worked as both an Augmented Visual activity on the first three frameworks of 4D in the foreground of the team or as a side task or later.

The tool enables new scenarios to be built from a library of SVT Business Objects™. These objects are selected to enable a very wide variety of scenes to be developed and enable text boxes, captions and colors to be changed at will. The results can then be saved as images for use in traditional ways. Presentation or within all aspects of change and transformation delivery.

We will enable - through license – dedicated or specific versions, training, specialist object libraries and support.

Specialist partnerships are highly important aspects of the vision for Group Partners. We see many hundreds of variants and applications for this vision. The basics of any partnering are founded on the principles we have already established over the last 10 years. The opportunities for partners are very wide and deep dives, focus areas, specific market variants and applications can all be accommodated given adherence and compliance to the basic laws of Structured Visual Thinking™ and 4D™.

We see specific library types, specialist object sets and best practice 'smart' sets to govern as in 21st Century Organization, Persistent Architecture and The GP Index thinking. We also see look and feel changes and partner 'branded' versions of the tool and its support and servicing.

There will be comprehensive support, refreshing and version controls. There will be a service option.

Governance

Creative skill is required to assemble Scenarios. Our concern in accrediting practitioners in the use of SVT 'Live'™ - Scenario Configuration will be firmly aligned to our Structured Visual Thinking principles.

In short Information Design and Spatial Awareness will be guiding acceptance and accreditation criteria. Anyone using these tools will have been trained in the ideas of Structured Visual Thinking and 4D and the precision required for the arrangement of objects, meaning within the scene, the story logic being told and the larger context and business logic meeting the requirements of The Business Equation™.

Visual standards will ensure that the scenes and scenarios created are in line with design rules and relative sizes and proportions work within the overall frameworks. It is our intention to regularly increase the specification of the tool to reduce the ability of the users to create low quality and poorly designed outcomes.

The technology roadmap for the SVT 'Live' - Scenario Configurator (SC)

'Drag and drop' technology is a powerful and compelling methodology. Structured Visual Thinking™ Principles state adherence to the laws governing the 'line of sight', 'cause and effect' and related arguments that exist in true systems and systemic thinking.

Near future development of the SVT ‘Live’™ - SC will see 'Smart Object' logic. This will deny the drag and ‘droppability’ of certain objects into 'fields' or 'domains' that have attached properties. This means that by business rules associated with the configurator screen then objects that don't meet the criteria currently known and as created by the Business Equation in force then a mistake will be avoided or other aspects of the framework need to be explored and redefined.

This is a bigger topic area discussed elsewhere but imagine the task is designing a more detailed operating environment where the known outcome measures are set. Imagine now trying to drag into the scene a feature that clearly does not contribute or has certain risks then these design attributes will be built into the 'smart object' and senses by the SVT ‘Live’™ - SC.

In the near to long term the SVT ‘Live’™ - SC will be a collaborative tool with remote co-creations and collaborative control and functionality. The tool will also have the ability to be driven and illustrate real time data feeds which can be automatically displayed within key or specifically designated objects. News, Research, Stock Information or all manner of internal and project related input for example.
